Traditional Encryption and Its Limitations:-

However, processing data in the cloud is not always possible using conventional encryption techniques. Data is often encrypted before being uploaded to a cloud server and then decrypted for processing in a typical cloud computing scenario. The information is re-encrypted and then stored back on the server after processing is finished. Although this method offers some protection, it also carries hazards because the data is exposed in its decrypted form while being processed. Additionally, because cloud service providers and their personnel have access to the data, it is possible for insiders to attack it.
A cutting-edge cryptographic method called homomorphic encryption enables data to be processed in encrypted form without first being decrypted. This significantly enhances privacy and security since it allows computation of encrypted data without disclosing it in its decrypted form. The capacity of cryptography to preserve the original structure of data, enabling actions to be carried out while it is encrypted, is referred to as "homomorphism."
Homomorphic encryption comes in a variety of forms, such as partially homomorphic encryption (PHE) and fully homomorphic encryption (FHE). PHE only permits a few operations, such as addition and multiplication, on encrypted data, whereas FHE permits any calculations, which increases its power and becomes labor-intensive in computing.

By enabling data processing without the requirement for decryption, it offers a revolutionary approach to data security, protecting data privacy and lowering the likelihood of data breaches. Although obstacles remain to be solved, the ongoing improvements in homomorphic encryption research and technology are opening the door for a cloud computing environment that is more secure and respects user privacy.
